I make a backup copy, prepare mapping and transfer products, categories, attributes, prices, customers, addresses, orders and other agreed data.
I migrate Magento 1 stores to Magento 2, including data, integrations, features and SEO. I plan the project so the legacy store continues trading until a controlled cutover.
Magento 2 is not an update installed on Magento 1. It is a new platform, so the frontend, extensions and bespoke code must be verified and implemented in a technology compatible with the current version of the system.
The decision to change
Official support for Magento 1 ended in 2020. The lack of security updates and the decreasing availability of developed extensions mean that maintaining the store requires more and more workarounds over time.
Replatforming to Magento 2 creates a cleaner architecture and rebuilds only the features the business needs. It also improves performance, the mobile experience, the customer journey and day-to-day store operations.
I define the Magento 2 delivery scope after auditing the data, theme, modules, integrations and bespoke code. The audit shows which components can use off-the-shelf solutions and which need to be rebuilt before I provide a quote.
The migration covers several independent areas. I analyse each of them separately so as not to miss elements needed by customers, the store team and external systems.
I make a backup copy, prepare mapping and transfer products, categories, attributes, prices, customers, addresses, orders and other agreed data.
Magento 1 themes do not run on Magento 2, so I rebuild the frontend with Hyvä Commerce. The new storefront can retain the brand’s visual direction or use the replatforming project as an opportunity for a full redesign.
I create an inventory of modules and check their actual use. I replace the necessary functions with equivalents for Magento 2 or implement them as bespoke solutions.
I verify and rebuild integrations with ERP, PIM, CRM, OMS, payments and carriers for new APIs. I only recreate custom processes after confirming their business purpose.
First I limit the unknowns, then I build a new store and repeatedly check the migration on copies of the data. Only after acceptance do I plan the final switchover.
I don't work with only one version of the data. Backups and multiple imports allow you to detect problems before the final migration affects your live store.
I compare old and new addresses, prepare 301 redirects and control metadata, indexation, canonical links and the sitemap.
I check product, customer and order numbers, relationships between records, and samples of data relevant to sales and after-sales service.
I plan to start outside the peak sales period. I save the migration window, responsibilities and rollback scenario before starting the final synchronisation.
A missed module or manual process only comes to light during acceptance. Therefore, the audit covers not only the code, but also the way the store team works.
A one-time migration does not show all data quality issues. Future attempts allow you to stabilize the import and estimate the final synchronisation time.
Changing the address structure without a 301 map leads to 404 errors and makes it difficult for search engines to transfer signals to the new store.
Launching before a sale or seasonal peak limits the time to react. I choose the date depending on the sales calendar and the team's readiness.
Budget and schedule
The greatest impact is on the quality and quantity of data, expansion of the catalogue, number of stores and languages, scope of the new frontend, number of integrations and functions saved in modules and dedicated Magento 1 code.
After the audit, I prepare the scope, schedule and quote based on a fixed price. I describe elements requiring additional decisions separately so as not to hide the risk in the total amount.
Technology partner
I focus on the commercial outcomes that matter to clients. I build fast, conversion-focused online stores and B2B platforms that automate workflows and make sales teams more efficient.
I combine seven years of experience in e-commerce with technological solutions supporting sales. After launch, I continue to help develop the platform and make strategic decisions.
Project security
The Adobe Commerce Frontend Expert certificate confirms the competences needed to properly implement Magento 2. This makes the choice of partner safer.
I have delivered Magento 2 integrations with ERP platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, NetSuite and SAP Business One, PIM platforms including Akeneo, and order management systems such as Linnworks and Brightpearl. This reduces the risk in one of the most complex parts of an e-commerce project.
This is a fixed-price engagement. A thorough analysis defines acceptance criteria, architecture and scope. As a result, the project can be priced in detail and the final cost is not a surprise.
I release working features to the test environment throughout the project. Your project lead can review them as they become available, keeping you in control of the delivery direction.

FAQ
NO. Magento 2 has a different architecture, so a new installation is prepared, data is transferred and the frontend, modules and integrations are implemented again. Migration is a separate project and not a standard version update.
The new storefront can retain the brand’s visual direction, but a Magento 1 theme cannot run on Magento 2. Rebuilding the frontend also improves mobile UX, performance and the customer journey.
Magento 1 modules are not compatible with Magento 2. First, I check which functions are still needed, and then I choose the current equivalent or prepare a bespoke module.
Scope may include products, categories, attributes, prices, states, customers, addresses, orders, content, and sales configuration. Before the project, I confirm the data structure and elements that require cleaning or additional mapping.
Yes. Magento 2 supports older password hashing methods used in Magento 1 and automatically updates the hash to the current standard after the first successful login. Customers therefore retain their accounts and existing passwords. The same mechanism applies to properly transferred administrator accounts.
Construction and testing take place next to the operating store. A short service window may be needed during final import and traffic switchover. I determine its length after trial migrations and measurement of the synchronisation time.
I prepare an URL map and 301 redirects, transfer important content and metadata, control canonical links and the sitemap, and check indexation errors after launch. This does not guarantee immutable positions, but reduces the risk of technical traffic losses.
