Over 5,000 Products
A large catalogue means more attributes, variants, prices, feeds and mass operations. It is worth assessing the speed of administration, search engine and synchronisation with PIM or ERP.
I transfer the catalogue, customers, orders, integrations and SEO from Shopify to Magento 2. I replace applications and platform functions with an architecture tailored to the sales model, markets and operational processes of the brand.
Shopify provides robust infrastructure and a fast launch. Replatforming becomes worthwhile when plan, app and transaction costs rise, essential changes require Shopify Plus, or the standard catalogue and checkout model no longer fits the business.
The decision to change
Shopify takes responsibility for infrastructure, core security, and much of the checkout. In exchange for this convenience, the store uses a specific product model, API limits, application system and plan-dependent features.
If development means future monthly applications, switching to Plus only for checkout changes or rebuilding the catalogue to meet variant limits, it is worth calculating the cost of remaining on the platform over the horizon of several years.
The values below are not hard technical limits. These are actionable signals that the cost of restrictions, manual work or fees may justify an analysis of moving to Magento 2.
A large catalogue means more attributes, variants, prices, feeds and mass operations. It is worth assessing the speed of administration, search engine and synchronisation with PIM or ERP.
With such volume, checkout stability, service automation and integration reliability have a direct impact on operational costs and customer experience.
At this scale, the cost of downtime, throttling, and service-based fees begins to justify investing in a platform tailored to your processes and growth plans.
Shopify can handle a lot of traffic. Restrictions are more often related to the data model, freedom of change, integration and cost of services than to the availability of the store itself.
A product can have up to three options and 2048 variants. More complex configurators require applications, item fields, or a different catalogue model.
Interface extensions for the information, delivery, and payment stages, as well as some custom checkout features, are available exclusively in Shopify Plus.
In addition to the subscription, there are applications and payment services. With a third-party carrier, Shopify may charge an additional transaction fee, and Plus has a high minimum subscription.
Integrations must support throttling and API version changes. After exceeding 50,000 variants, stores outside Plus also have a daily limit on creating new variants.
Magento transfers responsibility for the technology to the owner and development partner, but allows you to build the process without the boundaries imposed by the SaaS plan.
Attributes, product types, variants, sets and configurators can be developed for a specific offer without the limit of three options included in the platform model.
The code and checkout flow can be modified without upgrading to the enterprise plan just to implement an important payment, delivery or validation rule.
Magento Open Source does not add its own commission to the value of orders. The costs of the payment operator, infrastructure and maintenance of the solution remain.
One installation can support different stores, catalogues and markets. B2C and B2B processes can be connected to common ERP, PIM and OMS systems.
Migration covers data, but also functions, integrations and the way the team works. Each area receives a mapping and completeness check criteria.
I map products, variants, options, collections, tags, metafields, media, prices, states and data published in individual channels.
I transfer accounts, addresses, orders, items, discounts, taxes and statuses needed for service and reporting.
I document application, automation and checkout functions. Then I choose Magento modules, integrations or bespoke solutions.
I build the new Magento 2 frontend with Hyvä Commerce. I prepare a URL map, 301 redirects, metadata and post-launch analytics checks.
The new Magento 2 store runs alongside the existing platform. I perform multiple trial migrations and schedule cutover only after testing and data reconciliation.
Budget and schedule
The greatest impact is on data quality, the number of variants and language versions, order history, the scope of the new frontend, integrations, B2B processes and functions that cannot be replaced with off-the-shelf modules.
After the audit, I prepare the scope of Magento 2 store development, schedule and pricing based on a fixed price. I describe elements that require decisions or additional data separately so that the budget is not based on hidden assumptions.
Technology partner
I focus on the commercial outcomes that matter to clients. I build fast, conversion-focused online stores and B2B platforms that automate workflows and make sales teams more efficient.
I combine seven years of experience in e-commerce with technological solutions supporting sales. After launch, I continue to help develop the platform and make strategic decisions.
Project security
The Adobe Commerce Frontend Expert certificate confirms the competences needed to properly implement Magento 2. This makes the choice of partner safer.
I have delivered Magento 2 integrations with ERP platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, NetSuite and SAP Business One, PIM platforms including Akeneo, and order management systems such as Linnworks and Brightpearl. This reduces the risk in one of the most complex parts of an e-commerce project.
This is a fixed-price engagement. A thorough analysis defines acceptance criteria, architecture and scope. As a result, the project can be priced in detail and the final cost is not a surprise.
I release working features to the test environment throughout the project. Your project lead can review them as they become available, keeping you in control of the delivery direction.

FAQ
Yes. Shopify has a scalable infrastructure and supports large brands. The reason for migration should not be the traffic itself, but the mismatch of the catalogue, checkout and integration model or the total cost of the plan, application and fees at the current scale.
I transfer products, variants, collections, metafields, media, customers, addresses, orders, discounts and agreed content. The scope depends on the data available through GraphQL, exports, and the applications you use.
Shopify doesn't make customer passwords available for export. Accounts and purchase history can be transferred, and once launched, the customer activates the account or sets a new password in a secure communication process.
Construction and testing take place next to the operating store. A short service window may be needed for final integration synchronisation and switchover. I determine its length after trial imports.
I compare old and new addresses, prepare 301 redirects, transfer important content and metadata, and check canonicals, sitemap, analytics and indexation errors after launch. This does not guarantee immutable positions, but reduces the technical risk of losing traffic.
Magento requires professional hosting, updates and technical support, so it may not be justified for a small or standard store. At larger scale, the advantage is control over code, processes and costs that do not have to increase automatically with the number of applications, API calls or orders.
An accurate estimate starts with an audit of the data, features, integrations and frontend. Once the scope is agreed, I provide a delivery plan and fixed price tied to clear acceptance criteria.
